Introduction

Samsung has once again raised the bar for foldable smartphones with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Unveiled during Galaxy Unpacked 2026, the latest Fold introduces a redesigned, wider form factor, a lighter body, improved durability, and powerful Galaxy AI features. Samsung has also made the Fold 8 more compact and easier to use one-handed while maintaining the large tablet-like display users expect.

But is it worth the premium price? Here’s our comprehensive review.

Design and Build Quality

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features Samsung’s biggest design refresh in years. Compared to previous Fold models, it is:

  • Wider and shorter for a more natural smartphone experience
  • Just 201g, making it one of the lightest book-style foldables
  • Approximately 4.5mm thick when unfolded
  • Built with a strengthened titanium hinge that helps reduce the visible display crease and improve durability.

Display

Samsung equips the Fold 8 with:

  • 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display
  • 5.5-inch AMOLED cover display
  • Adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate
  • Excellent brightness and vibrant colours

The wider outer display makes typing and daily use much more comfortable than earlier Fold models, while the inner screen remains ideal for multitasking, gaming, reading, and watching videos.

Performance

Powering the device is Samsung’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with up to 16GB RAM and as much as 1TB of storage. This combination delivers flagship-level performance for gaming, productivity, and AI workloads.

Benchmark expectations

  • Lightning-fast app launches
  • Smooth multitasking
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Efficient AI processing

Galaxy AI Features

Samsung continues to expand its AI capabilities, including:

  • Live translation
  • AI writing assistance
  • Circle to Search
  • AI photo editing
  • Smart multitasking tools
  • Context-aware suggestions

These features help the Fold 8 stand out as a productivity-focused device.

Camera

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 includes:

  • 50MP main camera
  • 50MP ultra-wide camera
  • Up to 10× digital zoom

Image quality is excellent in daylight, with vibrant colours and sharp detail. Night photography is improved thanks to AI-powered image processing, though users seeking advanced optical zoom may prefer Samsung’s Ultra models.

Battery Life

Samsung packs a 4,800mAh battery into the Fold 8.

With moderate use, the phone comfortably lasts a full day. Battery life remains solid even when using the large inner display for work or streaming.

Software

The Fold 8 ships with One UI 9 based on Android 17, bringing:

  • Improved multitasking
  • Better split-screen support
  • Floating windows
  • Enhanced privacy controls
  • Long-term software support

Samsung continues to lead Android manufacturers in software updates and foldable-specific features.

Pros

  • Lightweight premium design
  • Outstanding AMOLED displays
  • Powerful Snapdragon chipset
  • Excellent multitasking experience
  • Useful Galaxy AI features
  • Improved hinge and reduced crease

Cons

  • Premium price
  • No dedicated telephoto camera
  • Battery charging speed remains behind some competitors
