Huawei Pura X Review Kenya 2026: Price, Features, Competitors and Limitations

The Huawei Pura X is one of the most unusual foldable smartphones on the market.

Instead of copying the familiar tall-and-narrow flip-phone design used by Samsung and Motorola, Huawei has taken a different approach: when opened, the Pura X gives you a wide 6.3-inch 16:10 flexible OLED display, while the closed phone becomes a compact square device with a 3.5-inch outer screen.

That makes the Pura X interesting for Kenyan buyers looking for something different from the usual Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr.

But at around KSh 135,000 on one Kenyan retailer listing, is it actually worth buying?

The answer is more complicated than simply looking at the specifications.

Huawei Pura X Price in Kenya

The Huawei Pura X was launched in China from ¥7,499 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. Huawei’s official Chinese store continues to list the phone from ¥7,499.

In Kenya, Price in Kenya currently lists the 12GB/256GB Pura X at KSh 135,000, but importantly marks the device as “Upcoming” and says it has not yet arrived at the store.

So, for Kenyan buyers, KSh 135,000 should currently be treated as a listed expected price rather than a confirmed nationwide retail price.

Actual pricing can change depending on availability, import costs, taxes, retailer margins and warranty arrangements.

Huawei Pura X Kenya price

Expected/listed price: About KSh 135,000 for 12GB/256GB.

Availability: Limited/imported rather than a widely stocked mainstream Kenyan model.

Launch price in China: ¥7,499.

That distinction matters because buying an imported foldable can create additional questions around warranty, repairs and software support.

Huawei Pura X Design

The Pura X’s biggest selling point is its design.

When opened, the phone measures approximately 143.2 × 91.7 × 7.15mm. Folded, it measures about 91.7 × 74.3 × 15.1mm. Huawei lists the weight at approximately 193.7g for the faux-leather version and 195.9g for the glass version.

That is impressive for a foldable.

More importantly, the phone doesn’t look like a conventional flip phone when unfolded.

Instead of giving you an extremely tall display, Huawei creates a wider screen that is closer to a small tablet or compact productivity display.

When folded, its almost square shape also makes it immediately recognisable.

Verdict: Design — 9/10

If you want a phone that looks different from almost everything else in the Kenyan smartphone market, the Pura X delivers.

The 6.3-Inch Wide OLED Display

The internal screen is where Huawei’s design philosophy becomes most obvious.

The Pura X has a 6.3-inch flexible OLED display with a 2120 × 1320 resolution.

It supports a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, LTPO 2.0 and high-frequency PWM dimming.

The 16:10 aspect ratio is particularly useful for:

  • Watching videos
  • Reading
  • Web browsing
  • Viewing documents
  • Multitasking
  • Gaming
  • Social media

The outer display measures 3.5 inches and has a 980 × 980 resolution. It also supports up to 120Hz adaptive refresh.

The outer screen is useful when you only need to check something quickly without opening the phone.

Verdict: Display — 9/10

The wide internal display is arguably the Pura X’s biggest reason to exist.

Huawei Pura X Camera Review

Huawei has also equipped the Pura X with a serious camera system.

The rear setup includes:

  • 50MP main camera with OIS
  • 40MP ultra-wide/macro camera
  • 8MP telephoto camera with OIS
  • Additional multispectral colour sensor

Huawei lists approximately 3.5x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom.

There is also a 10.7MP ultra-wide selfie camera.

The camera hardware makes the Pura X more than a fashion-focused foldable. It is designed to compete as a premium smartphone as well.

However, buyers should remember that camera specifications don’t automatically translate into better photographs. Image processing, lighting and software optimisation matter just as much.

Verdict: Cameras — 8/10

The hardware is strong, but buyers should judge the camera against flagship rivals rather than simply counting megapixels.

Battery and Charging

Huawei gives the Pura X a 4,720mAh typical-capacity battery.

It supports:

  • 66W wired charging
  • 40W wireless charging
  • 5W wired reverse charging
  • 7.5W wireless reverse charging

The 66W charging capability is particularly useful for a premium foldable.

The 40W wireless charging support is also considerably more ambitious than what some competing flip phones offer.

However, Huawei notes that maximum charging speeds require compatible Huawei charging equipment, and actual charging power varies according to conditions.

Verdict: Battery & charging — 8.5/10

This is one of the Pura X’s strongest hardware areas.

Software: The Biggest Question for Kenyan Buyers

This is where potential buyers need to do more research.

The Pura X runs HarmonyOS, with Huawei’s official specifications listing HarmonyOS 5.0.1 and support for upgrades to HarmonyOS 6 or later depending on the device.

The hardware may be excellent, but software compatibility can be more important than specifications.

Before buying an imported Pura X, Kenyan users should check whether the apps they rely on for:

  • Banking
  • Work
  • Social media
  • Streaming
  • Payments
  • Navigation
  • Messaging

are available and work as expected on the specific regional version they are buying.

This is especially important for anyone who depends heavily on Google services or Android applications.

For me, this is the biggest limitation of the Pura X for the Kenyan market.

Huawei Pura X vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip7 is one of the most obvious alternatives.

A Kenyan retailer currently lists the Galaxy Z Flip7 12GB/256GB at about KSh 109,000, although prices vary by retailer and configuration.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 follows the more familiar flip-phone design, with a tall internal screen and a conventional cover display.

Choose the Pura X if:

  • You want a wider internal screen
  • You want a more unusual design
  • You value Huawei’s hardware
  • You want 40W wireless charging
  • You want a larger 4,720mAh battery

Choose the Galaxy Z Flip7 if:

  • You want broader Android ecosystem compatibility
  • You prefer Samsung’s software
  • You want easier access to established local support
  • You want a more conventional flip-foldable experience
  • You can find it substantially cheaper

At around KSh 135,000, the Pura X needs to justify its premium against Samsung’s established ecosystem.

Huawei Pura X vs Motorola Razr 60 Ultra

The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra is another serious competitor.

A Kenyan retailer currently lists the 16GB/512GB model at approximately KSh 137,000 and shows it as in stock.

The Razr 60 Ultra offers a 7.0-inch internal display, a 4.0-inch cover display, Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage and a 4,700mAh battery.

That makes this an extremely interesting comparison.

The Motorola gives you:

  • Android
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite
  • 16GB RAM
  • 512GB storage
  • Large cover display
  • 68W wired charging
  • 30W wireless charging

The Pura X counters with:

  • Wider 16:10 internal display
  • 12GB/256GB base configuration
  • 4,720mAh battery
  • 66W wired charging
  • 40W wireless charging
  • Huawei’s camera technology
  • A much more unusual design

At roughly the same Kenyan price, the Motorola may be the safer choice for users who prioritise conventional Android compatibility and performance.

Huawei Pura X vs a Conventional Flagship

Here’s another important question:

Do you actually need a foldable?

At around KSh 135,000, Kenyan buyers have access to powerful conventional flagship smartphones.

For example, one Kenyan retailer currently lists the Huawei Pura 70 at about KSh 90,900, although that model is also shown as out of stock.

A conventional flagship can give you:

  • Better durability
  • No folding hinge
  • Lower repair risk
  • Strong cameras
  • Large battery
  • High performance

The Pura X’s advantage is flexibility and portability.

You’re paying for the foldable experience.

The Biggest Limitations of the Huawei Pura X

1. Availability in Kenya

The biggest practical issue is availability.

The Kenyan listing for the Pura X currently shows it as upcoming rather than readily available.

That means potential buyers should verify stock before sending money to a seller.

2. Software ecosystem

Huawei’s software environment can require more adjustment than Samsung, Motorola or other mainstream Android phones.

3. Warranty and repairs

An imported foldable can be harder to repair than a mainstream device with established local distribution.

This matters more with foldables because the display and hinge are more complicated than conventional smartphones.

4. Price

At around KSh 135,000, the Pura X is not a cheap experiment.

You’re spending premium-phone money.

5. No expandable storage

Huawei’s official specifications state that the Pura X does not support memory-card expansion.

Buyers should therefore choose their storage configuration carefully.

6. Foldable durability

The Pura X is designed as a premium foldable, but a foldable display and hinge inevitably introduce more mechanical complexity than a conventional smartphone.

Buyers should treat the phone accordingly.

Huawei Pura X: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent and unusual foldable design
  • Wide 16:10 internal display
  • 120Hz LTPO OLED
  • 3.5-inch outer display
  • 4,720mAh battery
  • 66W wired charging
  • 40W wireless charging
  • Strong multi-camera setup
  • Relatively light for a foldable
  • IPX8 water resistance under specified conditions

Cons

  • Limited Kenyan availability
  • Imported pricing can vary
  • Software compatibility needs checking
  • Warranty may be more complicated
  • No microSD expansion
  • Foldable repairs can be expensive
  • Strong competition from Samsung and Motorola

Who Should Buy the Huawei Pura X?

The Pura X makes the most sense for a specific type of buyer.

Buy it if you:

Want something different.

The Pura X is genuinely distinctive.

Consume a lot of content.

The wide 16:10 screen is excellent for browsing, reading and video.

Love foldables.

This is one of the more creative interpretations of the category.

Are comfortable with Huawei’s software ecosystem.

This removes one of the biggest potential frustrations.

Have a budget of around KSh 135,000 or more.

You shouldn’t be stretching your budget to buy this phone.

Who Should Avoid It?

You may want to choose something else if:

  • You depend heavily on Google services
  • You need guaranteed local warranty support
  • You want the widest possible Android app compatibility
  • You want the best value for money
  • You don’t care about having a foldable
  • You are worried about expensive screen repairs

Huawei Pura X: Final Verdict

The Huawei Pura X is a very good example of why foldable phones are interesting.

Huawei didn’t simply make another Galaxy Z Flip alternative.

It redesigned the concept around a wide 16:10 screen, creating a device that feels more like a compact tablet when opened and a small square phone when closed.

The hardware is impressive: a 6.3-inch 120Hz flexible OLED display, 4,720mAh battery, 66W wired charging, 40W wireless charging and a capable multi-camera system.

But the Kenyan buying decision is more complicated.

At a currently listed KSh 135,000, the Pura X sits in a price range where buyers can also consider established foldables such as the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Motorola Razr 60 Ultra.

Our verdict: 8/10

The Huawei Pura X is worth considering if you want innovative design, a wide foldable display and premium hardware.

But for most Kenyan buyers, software compatibility, local availability, warranty and after-sales support should be checked before price and specifications.

If those factors work for you, the Pura X is one of the most interesting foldables you can buy.

If they don’t, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 or Motorola Razr 60 Ultra may be the safer purchase.
