Here’s a simple guide on how to check your voter registration status with the IEBC in Kenya. This guide is valid as of April 2026. It applies during the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
1. Online via the Official IEBC Voter Verification Portal (Recommended)
- Go to: https://verify.iebc.or.ke/
- Enter your National ID number (or Passport number) and your Year of Birth.
- Click “Verify Now” or the send button.
- It will show:
- Whether you are registered.
- Your full voter details.
- Your polling station/ward/constituency.
This is the fastest digital method and works on any smartphone or computer with internet.2. Via SMS (No Internet Needed)
- Open your messaging app.
- Type your ID Number#YearOfBirth
Example: 12345678#1990
(Or use your Passport Number#YearOfBirth if you registered with a passport). - Send the message to 70000.
- You will get a reply with your registration status and polling details.
Note: Standard SMS charges apply depending on your network.3. In-Person (If Online/SMS Fails or You Need to Update)Visit any of these during the current ECVR exercise (running until 28 April 2026):
- Your nearest IEBC Constituency Office.
- Huduma Centers.
- Selected County Assembly Wards (kits move on rotation).
- Universities/colleges in your area.
- IEBC Customer Experience Center at Anniversary Towers, Nairobi.
Bring your original National ID (or valid passport). This is especially important if:
- You registered before 2012 (you need to register afresh, as mentioned earlier).
- Your details are incorrect or missing.
- You want to transfer your polling station, correct information, or register for the first time.
Important Tips
- Pre-2012 registrations: Many older voters are not fully in the current biometric system. Check first โ if not found, you must register afresh at a center.
- Post-2012 registrations: Your details should unless there was an issue.
- If the portal is temporarily slow during high traffic, try the SMS method. You can also wait and retry.
- After checking, you can also inspect and confirm your details during the ongoing exercise.
These approaches are officially promoted by IEBC on their website, Facebook, and public announcements. The portal is now active. If the platform says you are not registered, or it shows wrong details, visit a registration centre quickly. Make sure to do this before the first phase ends on 28 April 2026. Youth and first-time voters are especially encouraged under initiatives like #TukoKadi or #NikoKadi
